Arrived at Sydney airport at 10:15 at night on Thursday night, in the middle of the rain. As usual, something had to go wrong right from the start...
in this case, I “lost” the e-mails for the con tickets (they were later found in ST's bag) when it turned out they weren't on the plane, I got a touch concerned, but they did find my total annihilation cd, which I had installed onto Ao Tenshi No Tsubasa on the flight...
Spent the next day not really doing much that was really exciting.. Went to kinokuniya and practically drooled my way through the store. Finishing up with a Thai cookbook and the 3rd volume of the Hellsing manga (need the first two now).
The range of asian food stores is simple amazing, they're everywhere! There's even a bubble tea shop chain!
Looking around, we found a store selling Japanese pocky. And not just a small amount either. They had a heap! Including some of the newer flavors.
DDR.. my eternal pleasure.. and one of the first things I source out anywhere. Didn't take long either, there are a few arcades in the city, all fairly easy to find too. So of course, money was spent there.
Unfortunately, the coffee range leaves much to be desired, with Starbucks and Gloria jeans as the two main stores around the city. Both as evil as each other, resulting in the purchasing of better style instant coffee.
With Saturday upon us the plan was to go to animania early in the morning, however this went astray (still running on Perth time)
I spent the most part of the first day wandering around the convention, meeting new people, playing DDR, Spending money at the vendors and generally wandering around. My personal observations located various flaws in how the event was actually run and setup, none of which I plan on going into detail here.
Much of the cosplay was of a fairly good standard, and it was after the cosplay competition in the afternoon that ST and I met up with the other two people who traveled over from Perth (coconut monkey and Knux). As a group he finished off the convention for the day, and we all headed out down the road for dinner.
Sunday started much earlier than Saturday, with both of us at the convention before 9:45. this time I had command of the digital camera for the day, and took advantage of it, until it ran out of memory during the cosplay competition and I had to go and remove the images, something that never happened, due to the driver disc being ruined, and not being able to grab any from online.
After the end of the convention we went to Newtown to go watch steamboy (partly to tease Ruth
Monday was a shopping day, with us all heading to kinokuniya, Galaxy, Astro hobby and various other book and anime store to look at / buy from.
As a result, all of our bank balances were seriously hurt, and making the purchase of an extra bag for luggage necessary.
Walking back into the Japanese sweet store was interesting as they believed we were joking when we told them we wanted 40 boxes of pocky, they quickly realized this wasn't the case. The grand total of it all coming to $175 for the 40 boxes, most of which is in the premium ranges.
After collecting our baggage from the lockers at the hostel, we resolved to take a taxi to the airport for our departure, the resulting fare was actually cheaper than taking the train, and it was faster (not to mention easier).
The flight back was uneventful, with us seated near the middle of the plane. And we had no problems upon arrival (good thing too..)
So now I’m back at work and back to feeling like hell again..
and kinally.. my Kevin and Kell Aperance is today! ( w00t)
go read it
